Dove, Duck, Perdiz
Santa Rosa is located approximately 2 1/2 hours north of Buenos Aires just east of the Parana River in Argentina’s Entre Rios Province. Estancia Santa Rosa is the remodeled headquarters of a working race horse farm. This area of low lying farming and cattle land is known as the “Islands” region of Entre Rios Province because of the many groves of Eucalyptus trees that were planted in the 1800s to provide cover and shade for livestock in the open grasslands. Estancia Santa Rosa is within a 30-minute drive from the Parana River and its marshes that are home to huge populations of duck and Golden Dorado. The extensive grain fields that have been cultivated in the area over the years have allowed the populations of Eared Dove and Perdiz to explode providing excellent hunting for these upland birds as well. High volume duck and dove as well as perdiz hunting behind pointing dogs is available from early May thru mid-August & high volume dove hunting is available as well from early November thru late April.
The Shooting
We offer mixed bag hunts for high volume duck and dove as well as upland hunting behind pointing dogs for perdiz from May thru August as well as high volume dove hunts plus blast and cast trips for a combination of dove hunting and Golden Dorado fishing as well as photographic trips from November thru April each year. We can pretty much tailor the trips between November and April around your family or group desires.
High Volume Duck Shooting
The huge marshes boarding the Parana River and the potholes of the open grasslands ensure there will be excellent water levels in our area for the millions of resident and migratory ducks that winter here from May thru August. The outfitter legally feeds over 100 blinds spread over several different locations every day prior to and during the hunting season. The most desired duck in South America, the Rosy Billed Pochard, is found in great abundance here as well as South American Widgeon, Pintail, tree ducks and a myriad of species of Teal. Hunting is conducted from blinds and limits are liberal, either 40 ducks per ½ day or 5 boxes of shells.
High Volume Dove Shooting
Over the last century this area of southern Entre Rios Province has seen vast cultivation of several types of cereal grains including corn, wheat and sorghum resulting in a huge explosion of Eared Dove populations, now estimated in the tens of millions. With as many dove, but not as well known as Cordoba or Salta, this area of Argentina’s Entre Rios Province produces the same high volume shooting with no competition enabling hunters to avoiding long drives of an hour or better to reach good shooting areas. Our shooting guests routinely shoot 25 – 40 or more boxes of shells in a half day hunt. This area is the new high volume dove shooting frontier of South America!
Perdiz Shooting
Common Perdiz (spotted Timanou) is an upland bird about the size of our Bob White Quail offering the same type of great upland bird hunting. Found in easy to walk grasslands, they hold well for pointing dogs & are usually flushed as singles, providing challenging shooting. Hunters can expect an excellent opportunity to fill limits of 10 birds in a half day hunt. Driving time to the shooing fields are usually under 30 minutes as pressure on the birds is very limited in our area. A morning or afternoon hunt for perdiz behind our well trained Brittany Spaniel or English Pointers in the rolling hills of the Argentine countryside is an upland bird hunting experience you will not forget.
Blast & Cast Combo Trips
The incredible numbers of resident Eared Dove combined with the prolific Golden Dorado in the nearby Parana River provides the opportunity for a Blast & Cast trip that allows the best of both the hunting and fishing worlds from November thru April. Visualize a day where you could catch 20 – 40 hard fighting Golden Dorado in the 5 – 20 lb class one day, shooting 25 to 40 boxes of shells in half day’s hunt and all within a 30 minute drive of your Estancia. Top that off with an opportunity to photograph a myriad of bird species in the flooded lands of the Parana River and you have the makings of a trip to South America with something for everyone in the family. We offer this incredible opportunity from November thru April at our Estancia Santa Rosa all in one trip at a very affordable price.

Accommodations
Estancia Santa Rosa is a remodeled/refurbished 8-bedroom Estancia accommodating 8 guests in single occupancy or 12 guests in double occupancy. Santa Rosa was originally the headquarters of a racehorse ranch near Gualequay. The dining & living rooms are comfortable and the personal service is outstanding. Plentiful meals consisting of Argentine beef, pasta, chicken and pork served with a local flair are prepared by our chef. Malbec wines, beer and liquors as well as beverages are provided for our guests. This historic Estancia sitting in a grove of huge Eucalyptus trees is about as comfortable and relaxing as it gets. Daily maid and laundry service is available & the Estancia staff even takes and washes your waders and dries them after a day of duck hunting!
Non Shooting Activities
Santa Rosa located in southern Entre Rios Province in the heart of Argentina’s agricultural and grazing lands does not offer many historical or “in-town” experiences. As the Estancia is near the Parana River and its vast wetlands, it does offer exceptional fishing for South America’s hard fighting Golden Dorado and great photographic opportunities for the huge variety of wetland and wading birds that Argentina’s marshes are known for. We can put together trips the whole family can enjoy, not just for the hunters, especially from November thru April.

Travel Documents You do not need a visa or any inoculations to enter Argentina from the US, just a valid passport not expiring within 6 months of your return to the US.
Airline Scheduling American Airlines, Delta, United Airlines, and several South American Airlines offer direct flights to Buenos Aires from Dallas/Ft Worth, New York, Miami, Atlanta or Los Angeles. These flights normally leave early in the evening from the US, arriving in Buenos Aires early to mid-morning. Hunters should book their flights back to the US in the early evening of the last day of their hunt so they can enjoy a morning dove hunt.
Taking shotguns Into Argentina is possible but has become more difficult entailing long delays at Argentine customs and you will have to secure Consular permits from regional Argentine Consulates in the US, which can be a time consuming process. We strongly suggest hunters rent the use of the fine Beretta & Benelli semi-automatics or Beretta O/Us that are available at the lodge. The lodge staff cleans the guns you use every night as part of the gun rental fee.
