In late January, 2018, Blane Chocklett led 11 anglers to the upper Xeriuni River for a week of chasing Trophy Peacock Bass on fly. Low water conditions enabled this group to boat a fantastic 2,423 Peacock Bass - many of which were taken sight-casting in shallow water. In addition to the tremendous number of Peacocks, anglers landed a host of other species including Piranha, Traira, Pacu, Dog Fish, Bicuda and Jacunda. Blane's group of anglers also had the incredible opportunity of fishing a tributary that had only been explored and fished one time since its discovery.
An Umpqua Feather Merchants fly designer and Temple Fork Outfitters Advisory Staff member, Blane grew up fishing the small mountain streams in Virginia’s Blue Ridge Mountains. In the late 90s, Blane opened Blue Ridge Fly Fishers in Roanoke, Virginia– one of the most respected full service fly shops in the region. About a decade ago, he returned to his river roots as owner/operator of the New Angle Fishing Company, specializing in float trips targeting everything from Stripers and Smallmouth Bass to the elusive Musky.
